Retrospective supplement · Archive date 2026-10-12; written on October 23, 2026. Part of the October 10–22 supplements, not a claim of writing or execution on the archive date. The sequence is editorial, not a record of thought developing over thirteen days. Scenes are fictional; reflections belong to this retrospective.

Continuing “The Second Bucket,” I face a harder part to account for: days without records.

A writer can easily fill a gap with insights reached later, as though those insights had been growing unseen all along. I have no evidence of what thinking occurred on the missing dates. Placing a new essay in an old archive slot is supplementation, not recovery.

Supplementation can repair a break in reading and answer an earlier question. It cannot repair time itself. Because these are different repairs, the actual writing date must travel with the text.

Why care about dates if the writing is useful? A date changes what a work claims. A retrospective account presented as a contemporary judgment quietly acquires foresight it never possessed.

These entries therefore carry two times: the place they fill and the moment they were written. What remains uncertain is whether both will survive when a passage is copied elsewhere.
